Dream Wizard

A game made in one week for the 7DRL 2025

You are dreaming.

You will need to confront something that's been hauting you since a long time... You should be prepared.

Thanksfully, you can learn superfast in your dreams.

Goal

You will go through 10 levels, the goal is to beat whatever is at depth 10. You can use the Learn ability to target a zone. Depending on what is in the zone, you will advance the conditions of your learnings. Once a condition is fulfilled, you gain an upgrade and unlock other learnings.

Learning costs Insights, which you can find in the world.

Good luck!

Controls:

Everything can be done with the mouse. Additionaly there are some keyboard shortcuts :

Movement (no numpad support):

Q W E
 \|/
A-S-D
 /|\
Z X C
  • Abilities: 1-5
  • List learnings: Tab
  • Help: H
  • Wait: Space

Tips

  • Anticipate what you want to learn (Tab)
  • Insights are limited. Make the most of each learning experience ™.
  • You don't have to kill everything each floor. Only the final boss.
Killing an enemy don't give you anything outside of increasing your surviving chances.

Game state

The game can be finished and has interesting decisions to make.

The whole is not super-cohesive and there isn't much variety in content.

Balance may be off. It should be beatable but I did not really try yet :p

Appearance is a bit all over the place, with reminiscences of my previous 7DRL entry.

I've thoroughly enjoyed this, many times.
Topically:  Wander around and take selfies with monsters. -- It's the intersection of ridiculous leveling mechanics and instagram.
Between being quite novel and the future upgrades being hidden, it is hard to get into.  I had passed it by and came back to it after someone recommended it.
Some bugs, typos, annoyances:  It would be nice to have it numerated what is selected before taking a picture.  Teleport cooldown doesn't match what's promised.   I feel like cooldown enhancement should affect the cooldown currently in progress.  I happened to have a game go decently and was messing around on my older laptop and it got super laggy, with over a minute between turns.   I think the penultimate level is more difficult than the last level.  such that no one will ever die(wake up?) on the last level.

thanks for a great game.

Thank you for playing, glad you liked. Well yeah I didn’t touch it since the end of the jam and it has some rough edges, and even bugs apparently. I also experienced serious performance issues I don’t understand where there from.

Good job getting to the end. I think you’re the first I know to manage to get there, and through lags and bugs! Thanks for the dedication :)

Really cool game! The concept makes sense right away and really causes you to plan out your moves. I was able to get a big group of trees with bolts to take down the dream eaters, very satisfying to go from squishy wizard to unstoppable killing machine.

I would have preferred numpad controls. When the game loses focus it's easy to accidentally move in a stupid way with the mouse. But no real bugs encountered

Nice!

Yeah I would have liked numpad movement but the lib I use seemed bugged and didn’t make a difference between numpad and digits above the letters on the keyboard (it should, there are two constant names, but it didn’t work and I didn’t want to spend time on that)

You actually took down a Dream Eater :o I was curious if it was possible.

Thank you for playing :)

Incroyable ! Tellement de contenu et d'idées de fou
